Message from the President Dear fellow residents,
Recently I have attended a number of garden talks on a new weed problem
developing in our northern suburbs. Many gardeners will be aware of the
epiphyte called Spanish moss, (Tillandsia usneoides). It has become very
popular in our gardens, festooning from branches creating a feature in
our gardens. However it can smother and suffocate trees, as well as
becoming a potential fire risk by increasing the fuel load in tree
canopies. I strongly recommend that our readers remove Spanish moss from
their gardens.
Hornsby Council has published an informative article in their recent Bushcare newsletter. CLICK HERE to read the article.

Regarding
the M2 noise issue, I caught up with our State Member for Epping Monica
Tudehope at a recent Rotary function. No further news at this
stage. Once I get some traction from Monica I propose to discuss the
noise issue with both Hornsby and Parramatta Councils. I believe
the unrelenting noise levels are developing into a health issue for
affected residents and our two councils have an indirect responsibility
from a public health perspective.
Finally the Trust, like all charitable organisations, has recently paid
for our annual insurance. The premium has increased significantly and is
starting to have an impact on the Trust’s finances. I stress the need
for our readers to subscribe or even make a donation. Payment details
are always provided at the end of the eNews.

Hornsby Shire's worst intersection approved for traffic lights
Monica Tudehope MP for
Epping and Hornsby Councillor Nathan Tilbury
After
repeated desperate pleas from residents, Councillor Nathan Tilbury put a
motion to Council, last December, urging Transport for NSW’s traffic
engineers to conduct a full & urgent safety assessment of the
Beecroft Road and Kirkham Street intersection.
As
local residents know, this is the worst intersection in the Hornsby
Shire & the statistics confirm this. Between 2009 - 2024, there were
36 crashes with 21 one of these resulting in injuries and 15 requiring
vehicles to be wed away.
The
then new MP for Epping, Monica Tudehope, enthusiastically got behind
this issue & personally brought it to the attention of the Minister
for Roads, Jenny Aitchison who, undertook to have a safety assessment
completed immediately.
The
result is that Transport for NSW has finally approved traffic lights
for this dangerous intersection. This is a significant outcome,
especially given that, on several occasions (most recently in 2021), the
intersection had previously been assessed and it was somehow concluded
that no change was required to improve safety. This project is now
being put forward for funding under the Safer Roads Program along with
other approved projects.

Bush Music Club
THE BUSH MUSIC CLUB (BMC) BEECROFT BUSH DANCE
The Bush Music Club (BMC) was formed in 1954 to collect and promote
Australian folk music, songs, and dance. We are Australia’s oldest
continuously operaing folk club. The musicians are all members of the
BMC and take pleasure in playing for an audience and to provide
enjoyment for the dancers. It is all voluntary and the musicians are not
paid. We welcome you to come along to this dance. It is not required
that you know these dances. All dances are taught on the day, and then
called during the actual dance, so beginners can quickly get involved.
It is all about doing having a fun time and doing something different.
Even if you don’t wish to dance, why not come along anyway to watch and
the dancers and listen to live Australian folk music.
